The year is 1590. John White, the governor of the Roanoke Colony, returns to find his settlement deserted. There are no bodies, no signs of struggle, just the word "CROATOAN" carved into a tree. What happened to the colonists? Did they move to Croatoan Island, or did something more sinister befall them? This clue-based activity allows students to delve into the mystery of the Lost Colony of Roanoke.
